Inexpensive Digital Ambient Temperature Thermometer

Postby Phantom on Tue Oct 23, 2007 5:24 am

Went to Harbor Freight this afternoon, and found a great digital thermometer with the "K" type probe, and it was less than $20 bucks INCLUDING the probe. Not bad at all!! Here's the link:

I didn't discover how much of a treasure trove it was until Grim told me about it. I was blown away when I saw this particular digital thermometer with such a low price tag. I think I'll visit again very soon.

Other than that looks like its easier to read and seems a little more sturdy what are the advantages over a common household digital thermometer that Wal-Mart would sell for ~$5? I know several of them have an outdoor probe.

Instantaneous readouts of temperature changes. The Walmart variety may take minutes to update temp changes.

I've got one of these

it's crap dont get one, it feels even cheaper then it looks.

I have a temp data logger too, i find them very good with the excell interface etc, kind of produces a report on the go.

I'd love to have a data logger feature on mine. The one I got at Harbor Freight is a great instrument, and very inexpensive, but it doesn't do data logging.

We had a member donate one that her boss was throwing out, she works at restaraunt, so they had one that had a probe for surface, and ambient, and humidity, it works really well! Do your ambient thermometers count down from wherever they are or do they reset at the right temperature like the ir surface therm's do? the only thing i dont like about ours is that it counts down, very very slowly.

This one resets virtually immediately to any change in temp. It also has a lock, if you want to use it, to lock in the max - min temperatures that you've experienced.

This looks like its going to be the next good piece of equipment to toss in my bag. I've been in dire need of a quick reading ambient thermometer... and this one is backlit to boot! Can't beat that.

Also, I don't think I've been on in almost two weeks it seems, or at least made a post. I've had an idea for writing a book (non-paranormal) that I've kicked around for almost half a year now and I decided to dive in finally. Between that and work, I've just been dropping by occaisionally to see if there are any posts that peak my interest. So, I haven't forgotten about anyone! Just been laying low.

We've been missing you, dude. Good luck on the book thing. And, yes, the thermometer I got is backlit and does a really good job. And, it's less than twenty bucks..LOL
