I found this awhile back. I might just purchase this.

I recently made something to do a similar job, although the LEDS might not be as good, i.e this one might be better

On the first model I got one of those large rechargeable flash lights and I replace the lamp with a 64 IR LED array. So it works off the mains and had battery back up

the other is a sheet with about 225 LEDs in it.
We carried out a private investigation on Thursday night last week, and it made a huge difference. (only used the 64 LED array)

I dont know how handy you are with electronics, but I got all the stuff for about $100. if you want I'll post up some links etc of how to do it (really easy)

I like that idea, Stoner. Yeah, if you'd post them up for us, I'd appreciate that.

ok I got these LEDs, there are better out there though

http://www.besthongkong.com/product_inf ... cts_id=105

I used this wiz for the array
http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz

as I was using a 6V supply I essentially ended up with groups of 4 LEDs with a 22 OHM resistor in series. You can just keep this going, 4x4, 4x25 etc. You'll just need a soldering iron.

I replaced the bulb in the rechargeable 6V lamp with a 64 LEDs arrangement.

This guys one might be better then mine
http://www.gizmology.net/infrared.htm

note for the LEDs I used with the wiz i gave you

Source Voltage = 6Vdc
diode forward voltage = 1.4V
diode forward current (mA) = 20
number of LEDs in your array = 64

So i just bought some circuit board and went over 8 x 8 LEDS grouped into 2 groups of 4.
So you'd need 16 22 OHMresistors too.

You guys can get electronic compenents much cheaper then us anyway, I dont think you'll have to go to a hong kong site. If you go ahead with it give me a shout.

It does make a difference

there are some supper LEDs out there but they cost me about $20 each, so i didn't get them

BTW, ~I have also seen some nice IR lamps for CCTV cameras, some with 30M range would work out at about 150 bucks and would be better then the little one i made, but they need 12DC.

I can send some links but it would be to UK sites.

We appreciate anything you can do for us, Stoner. Also, there are others on the forum I'm sure that would like to see what you can offer.

has anyone used IR torch Flashlights? Ive seen them go on ebay for like 10 bucks. They have 28 leds. Seems like these would be amazing and cheap. Anyone used these?

I've seen some of them used while I was in the military for night vision. They're pretty much a flashlight that shines NIR... so it would look just like a flashlight on the camera, the beam would probably be too narrow to illuminate much, I imagine.

I've made a few for our group, and have plans to make quite a few more before we go down to waverly, they are really easy to make! They have between 15-25 leds and work pretty well.

all you need is my post above, where to buy how to do etc, getting the best leds out there now and picking a resistor that will stop you from blowing them up is the trick, so what ever you buy make sure you know the specs that are required to fill in the array wiz i linked to (

like kevin said, they are easy to make but also very cheap on e baynow too, i dont know if they are worth all the effort, unless you have some of the gear already like cct board and a soldering iron and solder, for one or two i'd buy em TBH
