Olympus WS-300m

So what do the members here think about this recorder.......it records in STHQ which i would think would be great at picking up evps....and also records in mono as well. I would like the input of buds here, it seems that the only downfall are the buttons, there so little and to the side of the unit. And another plus is that it only needs one AAA batt........And another nifty thing that i like the most is that it has a backlit display.

I almost bought one of these!! The only drawback that I saw with it was the frequency range, but that could be fixed with an external mic. The price was a bit much, but it looks like a great machine. The stereo recording feature would certainly seem like a plus in picking up EVP's.

NICE set there, Al. When I saw yours at Circuit City, I was just about ready to pick it up, but I hesitated. I KNOW the stereo has to help pick up more EVP's, as well as get a direction from where they're coming from. Congrats, man!!

thats crazy I have those exact same Olympus recorders, cant find the battery lid off the silver one though, although I have the USB one for nearly i year I have hardly used it, so such a small device it sure came with a lot of info, I need to get using it before I could offer an opinion.

If you take a look at the other side of the device you will see a cover......just slide that off.

WS-300M
Recording Format WMA (Windows Media Audio)

Sampling Frequency Stereo HQ: 44.1kHz/HQ:44.1kHz/SP:22.0kHz/LP:8.0kHz

Overall Frequency Response Stereo HQ: 100-15,000Hz/HQ:100-12,000Hz/SP:100-5,000Hz/LP:100-3,000Hz

VN3100PC
Recording Format CELP+ADPCM

Sampling Frequency XHQ/HQ: 16.0kHz/SP:12.0kHz/LP:7.00kHz

Overall Frequency Response XHQ/HQ: 300-7200Hz/SP:300-5400Hz/LP:300-3100Hz

So i would guess by looking at both models that i would have to set the WS300 to SP recording.........to get better evps in that freq range.

The best setup with this recorder i found is that you need to set the recorder to HQ mode and you will need to use an external mic.......I dont know if its the format that the recorder records in or what......but i was testing the quality of the sound between the VN3100PC and this one, it doesnt seem to pick up a lot of background noise like the 3100 does, but i can tell you this that the ws300m does sound great when it comes to voice quality......but thats not here nor there.......i want evp's.

I really think it has to do with the recording format that both recorders use......but im still going to use it.........in my quest for class A evp's. Just thought the members here would like a small review....now i cant wait to use it. With the external mic hooked up it seems to pick up more then the vn3100pc with the external also hooked up......

I'm sure that it does. I found out that the Audio Technica mic I use as an external increases the frequency range quite a bit, thereby allowing more possibilities for EVP's to manifest themselves.

And it also seems that the when an external mic is being used with the WS300m that the freq range is greatly expanded unlike my other olympus........im really thinking that its the format that both recorders record in.......

Possibly so. In any event, it looks like you have an EVP machine there. Go get 'em!!
